Moulton ISD Dress Code
The District's dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, avoid safety hazards, and teach respect for authority. Students are expected to promote good citizenship in their attire and grooming standards. The following guidelines concerning dress and grooming are to be followed during school hours and at school-sponsored events.
Students will not wear hairstyles that are disruptive to the school environment or cause undue attention to the hairstyle. Disruptions include but are not limited to unnatural hair coloring and designs or slogans shaved into the hair.
Hair will be neat and trim, and sideburns will not extend beyond the bottom of the earlobe.
Shorts, skirts, and slits in skirts are to be of appropriate, tasteful length. The minimum length is at the fingertips when arms are at the side.
Shorts, pants, or skirts are to be secured around the waistline. Baggy pants are not permitted.
Shirts that are made to be tucked in (with a tail) shall be tucked in.
All buttons except the collar button and first button below the collar button are to be buttoned.
Tank tops and muscle shirts are not to be worn unless they are covered by a buttoned shirt or worn with a T-shirt underneath.
Facial hair and earrings are not permitted on boys. Body piercing and tattoos are not allowed.
Clothing and accessories that advertise liquor, tobacco, or contain inappropriate slogans or designs shall not be worn.
Blouses are to be worn in good taste and must not reveal a bra. Sleeveless shirts may be worn if the sleeve is hemmed and fits snugly under the arm and cover all undergarments. Tops must be long enough to stay tucked in; or, if worn over pants, must be long enough so as to not expose the midriff. On the sleeveless shirts, the fabric between the neck and the top of the arm must be no less than the width of four fingers of the wearer. No less will be permitted. Frayed sleeves are not permissible..
NOT ACCEPTABLE are low necklines, spaghetti straps, halter tops, tank tops/muscle shirts, tube tops, stretch or tight pants, hostess or lounge-type suits, clingy see-through material, clingy sweater knits, body suits, bare midriffs or backs. The shoulder straps on girls' tops are to have a minimum two-inch width
Clothing that appears to be skintight or that clings to the body is to be covered by legal garments. Hats, caps, and kerchiefs, hoods, sunglass, and other forms of headgear are not to be worn in the building.
The wearing of shoes is mandatory. A shoe shall cover and protect the sole of the foot and shall be securely attached to the foot. No house shoes, flip flops, shower shoes, or shoes with metal taps or cleats will be permitted. No slide or thong-type shoes or plastic/rubber will be allowed. Shoes that have Velcro straps or laces must be closed tightly. No open shoes!
Any fad or dress that may be disruptive or immodest may be corrected at the discretion of the school administration. The campus principal will have the final say in what dress will be considered appropriate. Any exceptions to these rules may be left to the discretion of the campus principal in unusual situations.
Students who repeatedly disregard rules on grooming or dress are guilty of insubordination and will be subject to disciplinary action.
The principal, in cooperation with the sponsor, coach, or other person in charge of an EXTRACURRICULAR activity, may regulate the dress and grooming of students who participate in the activity. Students who violate these standards may be removed or excluded from the activity for a period determined by the principal or sponsor and may be subject to other disciplinary action.
The above is a guideline for students to follow. All possibilities for clothing and grooming cannot be covered. Therefore, we encourage students to use good judgment in selecting school attire.
THE FINAL WORD FOR ANY EXTREMES IN DRESS, GROOMING, AND ADORNMENT IS LEFT UP TO THE JUDGMENT OF THE PRINCIPAL.
