Budget Information

Superintendent Dr. Michael Novotny explains that the State requires specific language to be used in the motion when a school district approves a tax rate greater than the effective rate.  The information in the motion can be confusing or even misleading because it is dealing with averages and hypothetical values, not actual values. The actual tax rate of $1.07 is the same rate that has been adopted for the past three years (2007, 2008, and 2009) and any increase in property taxes would be the result of an increase in appraised value not an increase in tax rate (because the actual tax rate will remain the same).  Furthermore, by continuing to provide the 20% optional homestead exemption, the tax rate for homeowners in the Moulton ISD will continue to be one of the lowest in the region and the state.

FOR 2010, MOULTON ISD ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR'S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 10.3 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $71.64.

This information reflects the 2010-2011 budget that was adopted by the Moulton ISD Board of Trustees at the "Public Meeting to Discuss Budget and Proposed Tax Rate" held at 7:30pm on August 31, 2010 at the Moulton ISD Administration Office. 

The Board also adopted a Maintenance & Operations (M&O) tax rate of $1.04 plus an Interest & Sinking (I&S) tax rate of $0.03, for a total 2010 tax rate of $1.07.
